Online Documentation for SQL Manager for SQL server
Roles
All users interact with SQL Server within the context of a database-level principal - Role. A user can belong to multiple groups and have multiple roles, and the operations that are permitted by each role determine the actions that the user can perform. It is necessary to create SQL Server database roles when a group of users needs to perform a specified set of activities in the database.
Role Editor allows you to define role properties and membership. It opens automatically when you create a new role and is available on editing an existing one.
To open a role in Role Editor, double-click it in the DB Explorer tree.
